General Acupuncture Testimonials
"My decision to consult with Elizabeth was one of the best health decisions made. I landed on her doorstep with asthma complications, acid reflux, the need to come off of a hormone replacement med, and hip pain. Her ministrations have almost totally eradicated the acid reflux, the asthma symptoms are much better, and working through eliminating the hormone. Goal is to come off of the prescribed meds for the asthma, too. The hip pain is still there…but hey, she is not God. I look forward to my visits; her calming manner; her interest in the total person. I find it so easy to talk with her. Acupuncture is still very strange and foreign to most people and not easily accepted. But my close friends and associates have noticed the difference in my emotional state as well since I started with Elizabeth." - BB, Richmond, VA"I look for a few qualities in a health-care provider: skill and dedication; a listening, non-judgmental attitude; respect for my choices, even if they seem of dubious merit; a soothing, clean, comfortable professional space with no feeling of being rushed or treated like a number; an array of services, delivered in a personal and customized way depending on my needs at the moment; a totally up-front and reasonable fee schedule; patience, courtesy, honesty. Elizabeth has every one of these qualities, and more. I love her work and the subtle but real differences I am feeling in my life, and I recommend her absolutely without reservation to anyone who wants a genuine partner in the journey toward good health." - JGP, Richmond, VA
"Due to a poisonous insect bite (most likely a spider bite) I received medical treatment. While the medication helped it did not heal the problem completely. Then I suffered from side effects also. This went on for a while until someone referred me to Elizabeth. Although I never had acupuncture treatment before I was open to the suggestion. The pain was more than I sometimes could deal with. Through acupuncture, diet, and herbal medicine the symptoms have been greatly reduced. I am confident that with continuing treatment the remaining inflammation will be gone soon." -EBA, Mechanicsville, VA
Musculoskeletal
"Acupuncture with Elizabeth Maestropierro had been instrumental to my healing after I broke my back. I can move freely again. It has also relieved the recurrent shoulder pain of a pinched nerve." - CM, Powhatan, VA"My first visit to Elizabeth was prompted by a fall. I had injured my hip and I was havinga difficult time getting in and out of bed, navigating stairs and getting in and out of my car…..Upon completion of the 1 hour treatment I felt immediate relief from the pain and improved mobility as soon as I got up from the exam table. I followed her post treatment advice….. and my hip and mobility continued to improve.
I have now returned to seeing Elizabeth, after being away for about 6 weeks, because my job has me sitting at my computer all day or traveling and sitting on airplanes which tends to aggravate my siactic nerve. As with my first visit, Elizabeth connected with where the pain originated and has begun a regimen of treatment for the next few weeks which is promising to keep me pain free and help to increase mobility of my hip and lower back.
Acupuncture is a wonderful process that works to heal you as it relaxes your body and your mind without chemicals. My symptoms respond very quickly to Elizabeth's treatment and I am very happy that I found her. After my current course of treatments I know I will return on a monthly basis to keep my known issues away; besides I truly look forward to that 1 hour of absolute relaxation, no phone, no blackberry, no computer!" - DN, Powhatan, VA
"After decades of living with an aching, swollen leg, a painful knee and more recently very painful ankles I decided to try acupuncture. I did not expect such a quick and beneficial response. Two days after the initial treatment my leg was very, very much improved and now after two additional treatments the most discomfort I have is an occasional twinge. Many thanks to Elizabeth Mastropierro for her expertise and gentle ways." - CC, Charlottesville, VA
Neurological
"Elizabeth Mastropierro was recommended to me by my chiropractor when I mentioned to her that a friend from church suggested I try acupuncture to manage some of my Multiple Sclerosis symptoms. I have found Elizabeth to be a very skilled and dedicated therapist. While MS cannot be cured or the symptoms relieved completely, Elizabeth has diligently researched techniques to improve my symptoms and incorporates not only my MS concerns but other medical symptoms such as congestion or high blood pressure as well. Her approach is holistic and centered on improving the balance of my life. Not only is she very knowledgeable in her craft but also demonstrates a caring and empathetic concern for me as a person. I highly recommend her to anyone interested in the benefits of acupuncture." – LS, Richmond, VANeuromuscular
"I began receiving acupuncture treatments from Elizabeth in October 2008 for fibromyalgia, a painful condition that I was diagnosed with about 15 years ago. My doctor had me on Lyrica, the standard treatment for fibromyalgia; unfortunately, the side effects were difficulty in concentrating, memory problems, weight gain, constipation, fatigue, and blurred vision. After my very first treatment, I noted that my mind felt clearer than it had for over a year (when I began taking the Lyrica). Over the next few days, I noticed that my pain had lessened and that my energy level was higher. After about three months of weekly treatments, I was able to cut my Lyrica intake in half and after about five months, I was able to discontinue the Lyrica altogether and to move my treatments to every other week, and finally to every three weeks. In addition to acupuncture, Elizabeth had prescribed an herbal tincture that has lessened my pain and increased my energy level. I credit Elizabeth's treatments for giving me my life back!In addition to treating my fibromyalgia, she has also treated my hypertension, which had been responding inconsistently to medication for the past 21 years. Although I am still on high blood pressure medication, I have noted that my blood pressure, which is usually in the borderline range (150+/90+) has been consistently in the normal range (around 135/80) for the past couple of months of treatments. Who knows? Maybe I will eventually be able to go off blood pressure medication!" - TM, Ph.D., Powhatan, VA
"I have had fibromyalgia for about 30 years and have taken many different medications, exercises, and physical therapy to control pain. Acupuncture has eliminated about 90% of the pain in 2 sessions. Elizabeth is a considerate practitioner of acupuncture and dispels the fear that one has of the needles. She also answers the questions one has about this procedure in a willing and friendly fashion." -EMA, Richmond, VA
Women's health/infertility
"I have been a using alternative medicine for many years - chiropractic, massage and acupuncture for stress and endometriosis mainly….. Elizabeth has been instrumental in keeping my endometriosis and stress under control. She is a very genuine and caring individual with her clients' best interests at heart. I count my blessings daily for having her in my life." - KO, Powhatan, VA"I wanted to thank you so much for all of your help these past two years. I really believe that your treatment helped me to get pregnant both times!" - NS, Charlottesville, VA
"I came to Elizabeth looking for relief from symptoms of perimenopause: horrible mood swings, depression, headaches, painful/ heavy periods, loss of focus and concentration, and low libido. I was frustrated by the hurried response I had gotten from my gynecologist, who suggested I use synthetic estrogen. Something intuitively said that was not the answer for me. My chiropractor recommended Elizabeth . This was by far the best health decision I have ever made. My cycle and mood have become manageable in about two months time and I no longer feel the need to use antidepressants. Elizabeth also helped me to uncover a sugar addiction and has supported me in making some critical changes to my diet. In addition to feeling great, I have lost 10 pounds! Elizabeth is a true healer is every sense of the word. She is patient, professional, respectful and kind. I feel heard and respected in her presence. I am very grateful to have her in my life. My husband is counting his blessings that I found her as well!" - MCS, Powhatan
"I came to Elizabeth Mastropierro as a last hope to treat Endometriosis as well as Adenomyosis. It had been affecting my daily functions for nearly three years and was taking a toll on myself and more importantly my family. After discussing a hysterectomy with my Physician, I decided to try acupuncture. At 33 years-old, a hysterectomy was the last thing I wanted to contemplate, however was ready to do what I needed for my family. Within the first two weeks of treatment, I noticed a significant difference and to date I have had little to no pain. Prior to treatment, I had moderate to significant pain typically 15 days out of the month. I was very skeptical at first, finding it hard to believe that her treatment effects could be felt so quickly, however the only thing I could attribute this dramatic difference to was her care. Elizabeth has freed me from two disorders that I could not seem to handle myself or through traditional care. She truly takes the time to understand her patient and I would recommend her to anyone." –RM, Chesterfield, VA
Qi Gong Instruction
"Just wanted you to know that I enjoyed Elizabeth's Tai Ji QiGong Class. She is very knowledgeable and attentive to people and a good practitioner." - KK, Richmond, VA"Just wanted to say thanks again for the Qi Gong class at the Y. Offering your class at the Y was what finally got me to try the practice I had been meaning to explore for many years! I continue to practice daily, no matter where I am, and I strongly believe that this form is a tonic on many levels! A few weeks ago I was practicing qi gong by the Sea of Cortez -- what a great way to connect with nature. And yesterday I practiced in my hectic office building -- a great way to connect with the calmness within. One last note -- although I found it a bit awkward, maybe even a little embarassing, and seemingly "out of synch" with the rest of the more "flowy" movements at first, my favorite movemement is now "bouncing the ball", especially in public! Do you know why? It never fails to make me smile and remind me to lighten up!" - EJ, Richmond, VA
"Elizabeth is an excellent teacher. Even when I thought I'd never "get it," she continued to be patient with me and show me a different way to help me to understand. I love doing the form. It keeps me calm and flexible." - AB, Powhatan, VA
